A "Touch me not" Cat named Midge
Midge was just a kitten when we got her from a friend. She was the cutest little kitten with her pretty blue eyes and her half black, half white nose marking.
However, as soon as she was old enough to be independent it was clear she was not going to be held or petted too often. She was supposed to be "my sister's cat" but Midge didn't seem to like anybody except by my grandpa. She would SMACK your hand when you would reach out to pet her and she would give you a bite too if you tried again. Being an outdoor/indoor cat, her hunting skills and agility were spectacular. While playing with a feather toy I dangled by a string she was able to jump as high as 5 ft. and could sprint quite fast. When my grandpa would call her she would come running up to him then circle around his leg! At bed time she was a good little kitty for grandpa and would go out to the back porch when he told her to go to bed, right out the cat door to the area where the cats slept. After years of having moved out of my grandparent's house I returned to visit and I saw Midge. In her old age she had actually calmed down from being such a "Touch me not" cat and actually let me pet her. I guess time changes us all. |
An orange kitten named Rowdy
This is my Sister's cat Rowdy. I'm not sure where she got him but I only got to know him for what seems like such a short time. He would romp around and play, like most kittens, until he got tired. He was so cuddly that he would come up under your chin and lay with you on the couch when you were watching tv. He would try to get in your plate when you ate and would even go as far as sticking his head into your mouth if you let him. He was so gentle that sometimes he would be dressed up in funny ways because he wouldn't mind too much. We got him to wear a leather bracelet like a championship wrestling belt and he meowed for some crunchies. (Don't worry we took the bracelet off after the picture!) On a hot summer day, he got to take a bath... Which he didn't like too much. But it certainly did cool him down. Rowdy even got to share an icepop with my little girl that day. Adventurous, spunky and a cuddle buddy. Rowdy was one good little kitty who knew how to have fun, fun, fun until he was out like a light. |
As he grew he became an indoor/outdoor cat and enjoyed visiting the neighbors to get extra food and pets from them. After a while of going between the neighbors house and home he made a decision about which place he would stay at. Turns out the other home must have had better food or more affection because he went to live with them.
My sister says that she still sees him outside from time to time and I'm happy to say there was no dispute between the humans about where Rowdy should stay. As long as he was happy and well taken care of, my sister was happy to let him stay wherever he wanted. |
It seems that this kitty was like a child growing up at his parent's house: growing of age and moving out with friends. Sure he is missed sometimes, just like we miss anyone who has moved on in their life without us.
