A day like no other!
I thought yesterday would be the same routine, I had no plans to do anything out of the usual.
I woke up out of a strange dream like usual, had taken my daughter to school and fed my kitties.
Then... while I was faithfully training my pokemon for an upcoming battle I received a message from my mom about a music store where there was a cat who may be a stray.
She said the cat was pretty skinny and may not live longer and that I should check it out.
The funny thing is that we had been considering adopting another cat for a while, we hadn't told anyone and we just hadn't found "the right one".
So off we rushed with a cat carrier and some crunchies, not knowing how we would find the kitty or if we would even be able approach it.
Once we got to the parking lot behind the store we saw that there was a cat looking into the door of the store and there was even a scratching post and a few food bowls. It wasn't the cat my mom described, but then we felt guilty about even thinking about swiping up a kitty from this place without talking to the people who were obviously caring for the cat.
We went into the store and immediately noticed many employees sitting behind the counter, usually I would be intimidated but I had to find out if there was a kitty who may need help!
I asked them about the cat my mom had told me about and we introduced ourselves, They seemed to be in a bit of dismay about our question at first.
They explained that they had been to the vet with the cat and she had turned out to be positive for F.I.V. and just had her shots done. Our cat Kyoko has F.I.V. too so we weren't worried about contagion.
They had been trying to find a home for her and had even considered keeping the cat themselves but couldn't.
Our timing couldn't have been more perfect, somehow all of this happened JUST IN TIME for us to adopt her before she was taken to a shelter! They said that they were getting ready to take her to the shelter within that hour.
This is the most remarkable thing to happen in quite some time, all of us were so overjoyed that the kitty could go to a home where she would be loved and well taken care of.

03/06/2013 So far Lisa (The kitty's name) has been getting plenty of rest and adjusting to her new surroundings, it is obvious that she misses her old home in the music store and her friends that took care of her.
I'm sure in some time that she will come to enjoy this place too, we will slowly introduce her to our other two cats mostly by way of peeking through the door crack for now.

Her favorite places to be right now are in the closet and on my dresser. I gave her some catnip to relax her, she LOVED IT!I'm sorry for the bad quality of this video, the frames aren't really that smooth... I had an old flip phone when I recorded this. Its a wonderful memory!
I really recommend catnip mice for cats who may be in a new or stressful environment. Sometimes its just the trick to help a kitty relax and let loose. Another good tip for introducing cats into a new home is WASH your hands if you have other animals in the house after handling them. Cats HATE the smell of other cats and usually hiss if they have to smell another cat's odor. |
